Room 2's Self Portraits

We have been learning how to draw portraits.
We used ourselves as models and created self portraits.

We had to first think about the shape of
our faces as our faces are all different.
Then we looked at the space and arrangement of our features.

We noticed things like...

* that our nose is aligned with our ears,
* that our nose is most often in the centre of our face,
* that our eyes are all very different and unlike the circles that we used to use.
* that there are shadows on our faces created by our facial features....

We then learnt how to control our pencils so that we were
able to shade to show the shadows that we had noticed.

One of the biggest tips we learnt was that art is as
much about looking as it is about drawing/creating.

This Term we have been studying different artists.
We have recently focused on Paul Klee.
Paul Klee was often found to have used shapes and lines within his work.
He liked bright bold colours.  He is known for creating the well-known artform Scriffitto.

Here are some examples of his work of art.

View some of the artworks students from Room 2 created using Paul Klee's style.

Dye and Pencil Art

During Term 2 we used the media dye and pencil to explore shading.
We sketched compilations of 3 or more objects, and considered shading of these objects.

We had to look very carefully for where light was coming from, where it was
hitting our objects and where the light was not getting to.

Once we had sketched our compilations we then used our knowledge
of shading to create an attractive boarder for our artwork, using dye.

Here are some of the pieces of artwork that were
produced during this topic of study.

Tempera Block Art

Tempera Block Art

We created many sketches of flax in our Doodle Books.

We chose one sketch that we would like to enlarge to A2 size.
We then used black and white crayon and Tempera Blocks
to create our final piece of artwork.

Warm and Cool Colours
When choosing the colours for their artworks the children were asked to consider warm and cool colours.

If they used chose to use a cool colour on their background, then they used a warm colour to help show the sun reflecting on their plant.

If they chose to use a warm colour as their background they used a cool colour to emphasise the shaded areas on their leaves.

These are just some of the examples of what we created.
(Miss White will be uploading more of them soon... )
