Continents

Continents

Today we were discussing the continents and how it is believed that once all of the continents were joined as one landmass called Gondwanaland.

One of the children suggested that if that was the case we would find dinosaur fossils on different continents.

So, I looked into this a little further...

There have in fact been many different types of dinosaur fossils found on different continents.  But, the Stegosaurus, neither a dinosaur able to swim nor able to fly from one continent to another, has been found in western North America, western Europe, southern India, China and southern Africa - many different continents.  Which  indeed poses the question...How could this mammal have been able to travel from one continent to another, unless those land masses were once joined?

I love your inquisitive thinking Room 2!

You have had me very intrigued and I have been researching to find out more about these topics.
Maybe you could comment on this post and let us know if you find out more.
